Laimburg Province Winery expands its “Manor Selection” with the white wine “Auròna”, made of the best grapes of the grape variety Kerner. The “Auròna” will be available for a tasting at Vinitaly 2015 in Pavilion 6 stand B1.

In Alto Adige, close to the city of Merano, on a terraced slope in south-east direction on 500 metres above sea level, there are the vineyards of Moarhof, one of the best sites of Laimburg Province Winery. This is the perfect place to grow the Kerner grapes, from which Laimburg Winery makes a unique wine with aromatic notes, the Auròna – a Kerner Riserva 2012. The Auròna broadens the winery’s “Manor Selection” and will be presented at Vinitaly 2015 in Pavilion 6 stand B1.

Auròna – Kerner Riserva 2012 is made of the best hand selected grapes from Moarhof with a limited production of 1,400 bottles and fermented with the grape skins for 10 days. Thereafter, it matures in oak barrels for 12 months which gives the wine a brilliant golden yellow colour.

“Our intention was to make a premium wine on a similar level as our multiple-award-winning Col de Rèy, the red cuvée, is – cellarmaster Urban Piccolruaz says – The Auròna – Kerner Riserva 2012 has good aging potential, particularly due to the fermentation on the grape skins and the maturation in wood. Further, the grape variety Kerner gives aroma, structure and balanced acids.”

The Ladin name Auròna is derived from legends of the Dolomites, and means hidden treasure, the empire of gold and lights. The name reminds the preciousness and brilliant golden colour of the wine.

From 2014 on, Laimburg Province Winery has been the first Italian winery to apply the NFC tecnology (Near Filed Communication) on the labels of its wines. This tecnology makes it possible to show information on the single wines directly on the smartphone by adding a chip to the label. All new vintages of Laimburg’s Manor Selection are provided with the chip which is activated by approaching the smartphone up to two centrimetres distance of the wine label. The application was created by Davide Moriello, a computer science student at Trento University and founder of the startup “FactoryCreative” specialised in new communication tecnologies located in Pineta di Laives (Bz).

Laimburg Province Winery at Vadena not far away from the lake of Caldaro, holds 44 hectars of vineyards on 11 farms located between Merano, Eisack valley, Gries, Caldaro and Oltradige. The annual production amounts to approximately 180,000 bottles.
